Despite the statements that “everything is over”, the myrrh weeping in Dzierzhynsk still contuse to some degree. According to our sources, various items in the altar are covered in myrrh-like residue, as well as the icon of the Protection of the Mother of God. Earlier another icon, that of the new martyrs of Belarus (a paper reproduction) had exuded the most myrrh. According to our sources, the Divine Liturgy and other services are being conducted regularly. A new unconsecrated had been brought in and placed on the soleas, but has since been moved into the altar area proper.
There have also been accounts of miraculous healings attributed to the myrrh-weeping icons, which in itself appear to be miraculous. These events seem to be perceived in two ways, one being that events as grace coming from God, as the healings seem to confirm, or a call from God to have all come to repentance.
The senior priest of Dzierzhynsk, Mitered Protopresbyter Mikalaj Lednick, who had been recently retired has implicated. Even though his grave marker has been placed on the church’s ground (note: he is still living), even though he is elderly and failing in health physically, there is no reason to believe that his retirement had anything to do with the events.
The official position that has been stated seems to be odd in its nature, mainly by the lack of information being released. The volume of requests by Internet sites for information shows great interest in these events. It is a source of discussion among the press and individuals. If this discussion among non-church individuals would cease, then authorities in the Orthodox Church could seek out some answers, instead of having to give replies defensively. These replies have been given more in the form of questions, leaving many inquiries unanswered. Such events or encounters fare poorly for the church, leaving many personal interpretations of the events that leave poor impressions of those church leaders. Many of these personal interpretations are merely speculative and have no sound basis. As for myself, the “Dzierzhynsk” affair has been of great interest in the context to its involvement in the life of the Church of Belarus. I have my own feelings regarding this, like the town should be renamed, even if the event of the myrrh weeping had not taken place. I am aware that sometimes when people are constantly seeking worldly knowledge, that it can be harmful to ones faith and soul, especially when explanations are with-held or hidden from the faithful. It is a natural thing for the faithful to naturally go there, spend hours in services, and try to get some of the “myrrh”, be anointed with it from these icons in Dzierhynsk. A veneration of the icon here along with devotion to the events has already begun to start among the faithful. |
